About our Foundation:

The RT Autism Awareness Foundation is a 501(c)(3 non-profit dedicated to helping families struggling with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Founded in 2003, RTAAF continues to grow to support the expanding needs of our friends and neighbors dealing with this developmental disability. According to the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) autism is the fastest growing disability. One in 68 children born in the US will be diagnosed with autism.

Our mantra is Educate, Advocate, Unite! Our mission is simple but our task is great, and we need your help!

Educate: By bringing resources to the community to further the understanding of autism and what it means to those impacted. Our role is to teach compassion, acceptance and understanding and most important, to educate the families of people with autism as to how they can deal with the new reality they will face. We are the resource they can turn to for help.

Advocate: By being the voice for those who have none today. Stand up and support our neighbors who are struggling with autism. Help our community bring up jobs programs, understand needs for respite care, support programs such as Project Lifesaver, provide alarm systems, scholarships and more.

This year RTAAF began facilitating the design of an Enhanced Transition, Independence Development, and Systematic Support Program. An approach to enhance currently available supports, employment and community to include support for parents and to address and promote need for systemic change in order to promote increased independence in transition age for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger’s.

Unite: By bringing this community together in support of the children with autism.

Temple Grandin herself said this best: "It does take a village to raise a child.  Communities need to work together to help kids succeed. This includes teachers, local businesses neighbors, religious organizations and professionals."

In 2016 we delivered our “RTAAF C.A.R.E.S” Community Autism Resources Education and Support. RTAAF CARES is supported by the Mayo Clinic, Olmsted County Social Services and others via a grant from the Rochester Area Foundation. This 10-12 week program helps guide newly diagnosed parents down the path to success. To help them understand that an autism diagnoses is not a “tragedy” but a new path they will travel with their children to help them reach their truly unlimited potential!

Join us on our journey as we announce AMAZING new programs and partnerships at our 2017 Gala!
